Delta Trained 378 Security Personals For Community Policing

The Delta State Government has trained no fewer than 378 Special Constabularies to boost the state’s capacity to fight crimes in collaboration with other security forces.

Presenting the Community Police to the Nigeria Police Force in Asaba yesterday, he said the trained Constabularies would assist to police various communities in the state.

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa made the presentation at the Community Polcing Sensitisation Awareness Campaign in Asaba, saying with the increasing crime rate, the approach to community policing had become inevitable.

Okowa, who was represented by Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chiedu Ebie, urged the Special Constabularies to see their engagement as a clarion call to service in their respective communities.

Chairman of the occasion, DIG Sotonye Wakama (rtd.) said the Police force has been quite concerned about its ability to perform effectively in an atmosphere of rising population and increasing crime wave.

Speaking, Chairman of Traditional Rulers Council and Co-Chairman State Community Policing Advisory Committee,(SPAC), Obi Emmanuel Efeizomor II, said CommunityPolicing became necessary because security had become an essential ingredient of governance.
